The History of PC-ER
The Short Version
PC-ER, Inc. is owned and operated by Rick and Jill Brown. It was officially incorporated June 30, 2006. PC-ER is a computer products and services company. We are located
in downtown Pendleton, IN at 121 West State Street.
How's that for short? :)
The Long Version
PC-ER began as an idea back around 1995. Rick Brown was working at a Circuit City in Salem, OR. Rick and a coworker (Thomas Dumm, if anyone knows him please let me know!!) would meet occasionally for lunch and just talk about life and things. Through these meetings and talking about dreams and life goals an idea came about for a computer shop that was different than your average run-of-the-mill computer shop. Since computers can be such a cold and sometimes scary thing, why not have a computer services company that was interesting, fun, less geeky, and that can take some of the fear out of it? Rick's idea was to create a "hospital" theme and PC-ER was born.
Fast forward to 1999. PC-ER was still in the back of Rick's mind, but was little more than a dream at this point. He was working as a contractor at Cinergy in Plainfield, IN. His job as a computer field technician took him to many areas of Indiana (and sometimes Ohio). Many of the employees of Cinergy would ask him if he could stop by after work to fix their computers. He became so busy with this that when his contract at Cinergy ended, he decided that this should be his full time job. January 9, 1999 Rick registered "Millennium Computer Services", his first computer business. Having very little start up capital, the business operated on a shoestring budget for several years with moderate success. In 2005, he married Jill Brown. During one of their "I used to want to be..." moments, Rick mentioned the PC-ER idea he had a long time before. Jill's response was, "Why aren't you doing this?!?!?" So, the vision to transform Millennium Computer Services into PC-ER began.
PC-ER was operated out of Rick and Jill's home for a couple of years after that
conversation. It grew from a corner of a former dining room to taking over half
of the first floor of their Pendleton, IN home. The one person business has now
become a three person business with plans to grow even more in the near future!
PC-ER has been in their current location since August of 2008.
